Course Outline - This course will introduce students to a wide variety of topics related to international business and culture. Students will be encouraged to reflect on their own lifestyles, beliefs and social responsibilities. Students will be expected to attend at least 80% of all classes, type and submit frequent homework assignments, and use the internet for research purposes. This class will be conducted in English. Assessment will be based on participation, homework assignments, mini quizzes and a term project. Course goals include introducing participants to:
(1) the rich diversity of regional economies throughout the world
(2) the interrelationship of culture and economic activities, and
(3) researching skills and strategies
Classroom Procedure - The course will be taught as a workshop. Each session will include a short lecture by the instructor and project work in pairs or small groups. Students will be required to submit two major projects this term and regular written summaries of topics/themes introduced in class together with their impressions, opinions, etc.
Term Project -The term project will be to investigate one of the topics from our textbook or an economic/business topic related to the USA. This will be a group project.
Homework Policy - Each homework assignment is worth 20 points. The score for late submissions will be reduced by 20%.
Attendance Policy - Students will be recorded as late if they arrive to class between 5 and 25 minutes late. Students arriving more than 26 minutes late will be considered absent. Three late arrivals equal one absence.
